MBABANE – It was a sensational performance by Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa when he clocked a seasonal best of 10:40 seconds in 100m.

This was during the Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) meeting on Saturday where he came out tops, outclassing some top athletes from South Africa and Zimbabwe. Athletics Eswatini (AE) Secretary Thoba Mazibuko said it was a great performance. Matsenjwa is attempting to make it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

“Matsenjwa produced a sterling performance in Pretoria over the weekend (Saturday 22 Feb) where he got position one in the 100m with a seasonal best (SB) of 10.40 seconds and came third in the 200m with another SB of 20.72 seconds,” he said.

Matsenjwa said he was pleased with his performance as this was his first and looked forward to clocking more improved times as he continues to prepare for the Olympics Games to be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.

Matsenjwa’s next competition will be on March 7 at Tuks and then in April he will compete in the ASA Grand Prix at Green Point Stadium, Cape Town on April 9 and a week later he will be in Potchefstroom which will end on April 19.

Matsenjwa’s tight schedule will see him travelling to Mauritius in May for the World Athletics International Meeting and also compete in the Africa Senior Championships in Algeria and then maybe the Olympics Games in Japan.

Another athlete who was on the field was Mcebo Mkhaliphi, who came 5th in the 200m with a time of 21.47 seconds.
