MBABANE – It’s either he apologises or he faces arrest. That is Mbabane Highlanders coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, who has been given an ultimatum after the skirmish that ensued during half-time of the Ingwenyama Cup semi-finals between Highlanders and Tambankulu Callies.

Police officer and chief marshal at Tambankulu Callies, Sabelo Ndzinisa, said he felt humiliated by Vilakati and he had since given him an ultimatum to either apologise or face arrest. Ndzinisa told the Times Sports Desk that he was ready to open a case with the police if Vilakati failed to apologise. He said he would wait until 9am today.

Highlanders emerged the winners on the day, sailing through to the final, courtesy of a brace by Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze. The scuffle occurred while the game was still goalless with Highlanders scoring in the second half.

Ndzinisa said the alleged assault did not go down well with him as he was a family man and he was not in football to fight people. Ndzinisa alleged that Vilakati choked him unprovoked. Images show Vilakati seemingly going for Ndzinisa’s neck during the scuffle while the referee attempts to bring the situation to order. Ndzinisa is a police officer based at the Police Academy, Matsapha.

“Football is a game of emotions and we all understand that but it does not give one a right to assault others. We were all there to protect our teams as it is our mandates and what happened during that time shocked us all because all the teams were given demarcations of their movements and it was not good for Highlanders to come and share our passage,” he said.

Ndzinisa said he would wait to see if Vilakati would apologise but if nothing happens, he would be forced to open a case as he did not know the intentions
