MATSAPHA – The country is expected to send a team to continental championships in Mauritius next month.

Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) President Sihlangu Nhlabatsi disclosed that the country’s cyclists would test their resolve against the continent’s best in the African Road Championships in the period March 23-29, 2020.  Nhlabatsi was speaking after the success of the first cycling event of the new year, dubbed Individual Time Trial at Phocweni in Matsapha two days ago.

“We got an invitation from Mauritius. We will definitely send a team.

“We couldn’t select a team last year because we wanted to stage the first event of 2020 to know the list of cyclists who are still in our system. We’ll soon assemble a team and one of our two coaches will lead the squad to Mauritius,” said Nhlabatsi.
Eswatini last participated in the Continental Road

Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2018. Making the cut that year was the trio of national road champion Muzi Shabangu, Gcina Banda and Mduduzi Zwane.
Meanwhile, Nhlabatsi thanked all the cyclists who converged at Phocweni for the first event of the new decade. He thanked the phenomenal Dinize Wilsch who has been consistent in taking part and winning in the ladies category. He encouraged more women to come on board and seek guidance from Wilsch.
