MBABANE – Winger Darren ‘Dazza’ Christie has quit elite league football. This comes after being released by Manzini Sea Birds where he has ended his career in the top flight league. Christie, who made his name in football when he played for Mbabane Swallows, is now registered with Manzini Super League side Bad Boys.

The player confirmed yesterday that he had called it quits on playing in the elite league and the National First Division. He said he would now use experience by playing at regional level and Bad Boys was a good team for him as they were playing in the Manzini Super League.

Competitive

“It is time to I hang up my boots and I’m happy that Manzini Sea Birds released me. I will continue playing football but not in high competitive leagues like the Premier Legaue and the First Division,” he said.

Christie joined Manzini Sea Birds from Manzini Sundowns. In the 2017/ 18 season, Christie couldn’t play for a team of his choice until the ad hoc Players Status Committee headed by Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini declared him a free agent. The matter, dragged for over six months as Swallows claimed that Christie had a running contract with them and he was finally cleared and join Sea Birds.

Dazza also played ‘The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens’ a men’s soccer team representing the University of Delaware in all men’s college soccer competitions in the United States of America. He played for about four season from 2006 to 2010 before rejoining Mbabane Swallows.

Released

Manzini Sea Birds General Manager London Dlamini confirmed yesterday that they released him with other two players being Bonkhosi Dlamini, and Xolani Dlamini, who made his debut for Manzini Wanderers on Sunday.

“He requested to be excused and we allowed him and we boosted our squad with some players including Sandile Sikhondze,” he said.
Christie also played for the national team, Sihlangu.
