RECORDS TUMBLE IN 142ND PARKRUN

MBABANE – Up to nine runners celebrated personal bests in the 142nd edition of the Mbabane parkrun yesterday.


Interestingly more women improved their personal bests as compared to men in the weekly 5km timed run, which starts and finishes at Mbabane Club every Saturday. There were six women who had their personal best times while only three men managed to set their new records.


Musawenkhosi Mamba managed to finish the race in 16:36 minutes; this reflects 10 seconds faster in comparison to his last week record of 16:46 minutes. Ayanda Dlamini, who was doing the parkrun for the second time, came back with a bang, clocking 19:23 minutes beating his previous time of 19:33 minutes he set in December 21 last year.


In the ladies section, Cheryl Amaroso also improved her personal best, crossing the finishing line in 29:09 minutes, beating his previous record of 30:10 minutes. Times of Eswatini News reporter Phiwase Phungwayo finished the race earlier than her previous time ,clocking in 32 minutes. Her previous time was set in the 140th edition on January 11, 2020.

Others who had their improved finishing times  included  Andrian De Koning who finished in 37:08 minutes and Nicola Mcalpine who clocked 41:08. Zethu Dlamini finished in 41:49 minutes. Others were Portia Mutale, who clocked 43:20 minutes and Nomvula Dlamini in 54:31 minutes.
Reached for comment, Mamba said he was happy with his personal best and he was looking to finish the race in 15 minutes. Another personal best setter, Nomvula Dlamini said she was excited about her new record.
“This motivates me to even do better next time. I am happy about my achievement,” she said.
