MBABANE – Giving back to the community. Christmas is a time of giving and sharing with others. This is a season for everyone to enjoy and reflect on the year while preparing for a new one. Giving without expecting anything in return is the most noble thing one can ever do, a sign of solidarity that does not only bring happiness to the beneficiary but a feeling of fulfilment to the giver.

In the spirit of giving and sharing, the community of Siphofaneni at Emahalani was yesterday presented with over 400 pairs of shoes. These shoes were donated by the over 70 anglers who participated in the Lusip Monster Fish Competition early last month. The shoe donation initiative was a way of giving back to the community of Siphofaneni where the Lusip Dam is located.

The winners of the day were Greg Green and Freddy Nemes, who caught tiger and bass fish weighing 3.34kg and 3.39kg respectively.
The donation consisted of new and used shoes in all sizes. The competition’s organisers, Belinda and Robert Forbes, thanked the anglers who responded positively to the campaign. She said the initial target was to donate 500 shoes but highly commended their effort, which she said would benefit a lot of people especially children and the elderly.

“Thank you to everyone who donated and helped us help others. On the day of the competition we had 320 shoes and the anglers continued to donate more shoes and the final count was over 400. We are looking forward to what we can give back to others with the Lusip Monster Fish Competition in the year 2020,” said Belinda Forbes.

Through the Lusip Monster Fish Competition, the members of the community also get short-term job opportunities as they are hired to assist in the organisation of the event which also hosts anglers from other countries.
