MBABANE – This has been achieved through their ‘Buy-a-boot’ campaign started early this season by the National Supporters Committee (NSC) of Moneni Pirates.

The campaign was an initiative by the supporters, along with the club’s Marketing Committee, which has Mhlonishwa Motsa as its Corporate Affairs Officer.
“It is all part of the conscious decision that as Moneni Pirates, we’ll use what we have to sustain ourselves as we try to re-brand the club which has for a long time been associated with hooliganism. Our supporters have really done a good job to assist in the team’s needs and through the ‘Buy-a-boot’ campaign; they’ve managed to deliver 15 new pairs of soccer boots.

“Some of our players were even wearing them for the first time last week while others had been having them for a while now as this was started early in the season. The supporters were grouped in fives to sixes and 15 groups came out with each contributing a pair,” explained Motsa, who visited the Times of Eswatini offices yesterday after he had been asked to shed light on how far they had gone on their mandate as marketing to bring back to life the Pirates brand and getting a potential director or directors as that was one of their mandates.

Motsa said currently, they had a long way to go.
“We are like every other struggling team with the only difference being that we have efforts to sustain ourselves by making our brand audible to the corporate world. We don’t have money, instead we want money and still looking for someone to lead and grow the brand which we believe is now alive again,” he explained.

He said they also had the same challenges as other clubs despite having partnered with several sponsors.
“We’re grateful to every sponsor we have currently but people must not have the misconception that we have money because running a football club is expensive;  there are day to day expenses which are costly per week so we appeal to those people who wish to grow this brand as directors,” he said.

gratitude

He expressed their gratitude as the marketing team to the supporters for also playing a big role in the team’s running as that is exactly what they spoke about during the preseason dinner at Esibayeni Lodge that ‘all things Moneni Pirates’ will speak business for the club. He said the supporters aimed at buying soccer boots for each and every player regardless if they have them. Pirates have 28 players.

He also encouraged them to also buy the team’s Umbro replicas as they were still selling but would not commit to state how much they have made to this far from their sale. Meanwhile, the club’s NSC Chairman Themba Matsenjwa also confirmed the soccer boots were bought and delivered to the club for the players.

“We don’t have a director yet so we’re doing all we can to be involved and see the team move forward. As the NSC, we came together and came out with a good idea, got people who are so passionate about the team,” he said.

He also said there was a lot in store that they were working on but at this stage, it would be premature to say much. He added that the ‘Buy-a-boot’ campaign was not over but continued until they can buy a pair for each and every player.
