MBABANE – It is a spend-money-to-make-money tournament – registration fee is high and prizes are higher. That is the story behind the competition to be played over the weekend in Ladysmith, South Africa. It features Eswatini’s elite volleyball sides.

Each male team pays E1 500 for registration while ladies’ participation fee is E1 000, with the interesting part being the champions’ prize. Men’s champions will take home E8 000 while ladies will walk away with E6 000.

The champions prize for men is E2 000 higher than what champions of the local elite volleyball, Correctional Sunrise took home while for the ladies it’s the same as that of Eswatini. Teams will only spend E300 for accommodation throughout the weekend. At least five teams will attend the 2019 Intertownship Volleyball Tournament. Eswatini National Volleyball Association (ENVA) Management Committee (MC) Secretary Eric Zwane confirmed the invite to the tournament which starts today.
“We already have some of our teams going to play in the tournament and those that have confirmed are Zakhele, Bob Cats, RSSC men, UNESWA and Chilly Babes,” he said.

The tournament is billed for the Ladysmith Indoor Sports Complex from today until Sunday afternoon. Hosts are Team 7 from Ladysmith. For Bob Cats, it came at the right time as the team had just missed out on a trip to Malawi for the Zone Six Club Volleyball Championships along with Nedbank League champions Correctional Services due to lack of funds.

The Zone Six games resume tomorrow until next Saturday. Meanwhile, the full prizes for both tournament divisions stand as listed on the table.
