SUPERLADIES ARE NWL CHAMPS

MATSAPHA – Superladies defended their league title in style as they thumped Lynx Basketball in the finals of the National Women League.


Superladies managed to hammer Lynx 69-46 in the first round and ensured that they walked away with the trophy when they beat Lynx 74-48 in the second round game, which was played at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Sports Emporium on Saturday.


They will take home E15 000 while the runners-up Lynx are entitled to E9 000.
Meanwhile, in the Elite Men’s League, Superstars managed to defend their title at the expense of elite returnees Langalam Dunkylaine. They beat them 86-62 win the championship and they take home E20 000.


Runners-up in the EML will receive E12 500. This is according to a prize breakdown by Basketball Association of Eswatini (BASE) treasurer Nomfundo Jiyane. The title sponsor of the Eswatini National Basketball League (ENBL) MTN Eswatini, on the other hand, has applauded teams for improved standard of play in the league.


MTN’s Meshack Maseko said they were happy about the league’s improved standard.
“It was a super-league indeed as all teams showed a great display. The four teams that made it to the last four deserved to be there. The finals were great as we saw Superstars sweating to defend their title against Dunkylaine,” Maseko said. He commended the association and teams for working together for the success of the league.


Basketball Association of Eswatini (BASE) President Nhlanhla Maphanga echoed the sponsor’s comments that the league was highly competitive.
He said they were looking forward to an even more improved standard next year.


Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council’s Zama Tsabedze thanked the sponsor for the support, noting since their partnership with the association, the sport had greatly improved.
