MBABANE – He has conquered South Africa.

Local motocross young rider Seth Young is the champion of the 2019 South Africa Nationals Motocross MX 85cc junior class. This was after his sterling performance during the seven rounds across South Africa. His achievement was yesterday recognised by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga who congratulated him for hoisting the country’s flag high and representing the country well. Seth competed in the rounds in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Pietermaritzburg, Bloemfontein, Welkom and Johannesburg before bringing home the trophy.

The Grade VI Usutu Forest Primary School pupil finished 24 points ahead of the second-placed rider to earn the championship. Young said motocross was a really fun sport and he loved it. “I love riding; it’s a fun sport. some of the tracks are difficult to passby other riders because of the tied tracks. I would like to thank all my sponsors, my father, my team and motocross,” he said.  Minister of Sports Bulunga congratulated the young rider and said he had made the country proud after winning at such a big stage.

Commitment

“I want to express my greatest excitement in seeing such a young person achieving such accolades from the commitment and effort that you put in winning. This is a gruelling and very challenging sport but we have different tastes. Government is truly excited to see young people achieving, especially at the international stage,” he said. He congratulated the young man for putting the effort, dedicating himself and his time in making sure that he won. Bulunga said despite that he was competing in South Africa, he was still representing the country and making it proud.

“We really appreciate that a lot. We hope that as you grow in the sport, you will remain loyal to the kingdom. We do not want to lose people like you because sometimes once you get exposure, the other countries will start dangling a carrot that will tempt you to fly under their flag,” said the minister. Bulunga then thanked Seth’s father Denzil, for always being there for the rider and giving him the best support. He said parents had a big role to play if athletes were to succeed in sport and achieving great things. He said the rider could make a living through playing the sport, which is a form of off-road motorcycle racing held on enclosed off-road circuits.

Recreation

Also present was the Swaziland Motocross Bike Association (SMBA) Secretary Tasmia, Seth Young‘s father Denzil, Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) CEO Darius Dlomo, Business and Development Manager Zama Tsabedze, among others.
