MBABANE – Losing weight does not only result in physical transformation but also improves one’s social life as well as biological and psychological health.

Every week the transformation corner shares stories of real men and women who have turned their lives around through losing weight and gaining fitness.
The motive is to inspire and motivate others to live a holistically healthy lifestyle.

Today we are celebrating Amanda Dlamini, who started her weight loss journey in March last year and managed to lose 25kg of body fat in a space of 17 months. Dlamini’s heaviest weight was 96 kg.

Like most people, her weight gain was influenced by a lack of exercise and unhealthy food choices.
Obesity is inevitably accompanied by health problems, challenges in mobility, loss of self-esteem and these can make one anti-social.
“My weight was affecting my daily life. I was excessively big and my weight loss was propelled by the constant headaches that troubled me every day. I joined Zithande Athletics Club with the intension of shedding the extra weight and living a normal life.

“Due to a detox programme and a strict training routine which include boot camps, cross-fit training and long runs helped lose the weight,” said Dlamini.
After months of training, the troublesome headaches vanished. Being a religious lady, she testified that training refreshed her mind and made it easy for her to preach for hours.

lifestyle

Living a healthy lifestyle is no walk in the park but calls for dedication, discipline and hard work. That meant avoiding certain kinds of food such as sweet dishes, oily food and too much starch. She also committed herself to training and learning to drink not less than two litres of water per day.

“I am a preacher of the Gospel of God and training helps me to shake off stress. My personal slogan: ‘My body, my business’, kept me focused. I learnt that I had the power to change my life for the better and my end goal inspired me to push myself even harder,” she said.

The transformed lady said group training at Zithande helped her a lot. A club offers a good support system other than individual training.

“The first step is to set reasonable goals then make changes in your daily routine and eating habits. Consult with your health care provider for weight loss advice and tips. Support from friends and family cam make your progress easier,” she added.
