MBABANE – Golfer Nobuhle Dlamini is up there with the ‘big guns’ in Africa.

According to the Women’s World Golf Rankings for the period ending October 14, 2019, the Lobamba-born golfer is third in Africa behind South Africa’s duo of Lee-Anne Pace and Stacy Bregman. Globally, Dlamini is ranked 631st out of 1 348.

Dlamini’s resurgence on the global charts has been boosted by her return in Europe in April this year following an absence of about two years. She is back competing abroad with superstars in the Ladies European Tour (LET). Between September and this month, the 27-year-old played in Spain, France and India and left a mark to pocket over E200 000.

The rankings are based on performances on the eight major tours that include the LET. In essence, Dlamini, who is fresh from winning a tournament in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Province, stands a chance to shoot up the charts if she continues to shine in tournaments abroad.

Best

The best female golfer in the world, according to the charts, is Jin-Young Ko from Korea.
Meanwhile, the global standings, also known for sponsorship reasons as the Rolex Rankings, were introduced in February 2006. They are sanctioned by eight women’s golf tours. These include the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the Ladies European Tour.
The rankings are used to determine eligibility criteria for certain events.

The South Africa-based golfer highlighted that she was honoured to be up there with the best, stressing that it was a motivation to reach for the stars.
“I’m a happy to know that and it’s a big achievement. I will try to push harder to be the best of them all,” she said.

On her return to Europe, Dlamini highlighted that she was relieved to be enjoying a good run, but felt there was still room for improvement.
The next stop in Europe for Dlamini will be in Spain late next month, where she will fight for a share from an about E4.9 million purse.
“It’s been a good season for me so far in Europe and I’m looking forward to the next tournament,” she said.

professional

The year 2019, on the other hand, can be dubbed a turning point in Dlamini’s career in the paying ranks since she became a professional in 2014. She celebrated a rare treble in the Sunshine Ladies Tour (SLT) early this year.

The SLT is a series of tournaments that are played mainly in neighbouring South Africa in the first few months of the year.
Following the remarkable run in the Sunshine Tour, Dlamini is ranked number one in the 2019 SLT Order of Merit featuring golfers from across the globe. Her career earnings have reached the E1 million mark.
