MBABANE – There is no reprieve for football lovers in Eswatini.

A day after the elimination of the senior national football side Sihlangu in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, the national Under-17s suffered a crushing setback in the third place-offs against Angola yesterday.

The ‘trigger-happy’ Angolans fired five unanswered goals to win bronze ahead of Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini’s troops in Blantyre, Malawi.
The local outfit were ‘left cursing’ Angola’s Valdemiro Domingos, whose four goals were inspirational in the big win.

According to a live feed on the official Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Twitter page, Domingos set the tone for a good outing when he opened his team’s account from as early as the 15th minute.

unmarked

Angola won a corner kick and Andre Muhongo drove the ball into the box and an unmarked Domingos slotted it into the back of the net.
When the game was 29 minutes old, the Angolans had doubled their advantage. Jeremias delivered a cross for Rivaldo but Eswatini’s Magongo cleared but not far from Domingos who collected the ball with a quick dummy to have the ball to his left to take a shot which goalkeeper Siyabonga Magagula failed to stop.
Eswatini was forced to make a change as Mukelo Nkambule got injured and he was replaced by Fana Lukhele.

Just when the country’s youngsters tried to pick up the pieces, Angola stretched their lead.
Following a counter attack, Chiquinho found a ball on the far side, played it into the box.

Net

Andre Muhongo took a grass cutter into the back of the net to ensure a three-goal cushion during the break.
Angola were done yet, with substitute Henrique Cusso making a run on the far side to take a low cross into the Eswatini box for Valdemiro Domingos to lay it over goalkeeper Magagula to claim his hat-trick in this match after the hour mark.

Six minutes from time, the last nail was hit in the coffin. Valdemiro got the ball on the far side, and  a one-two with Rivaldo saw a cross delivered to Domingos, who headed it into the net to complete the rout.

End

It was the end of the road for Eswatini in the tournament, which was won by Zambia ahead of Mozambique.
Coach ‘Magiyane’ picked up positives for future outings.

“When you come to this tournament you should have enough depth.
“Eswatini has so much talent that should be brought to the fore for development. The FA developmental teams should always be kept busy to ensure stability in the growth of the players,” he noted.
The team is expected back home by today.
