MANZINI – The relationship between the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) and darts matures like wine each year.

ESRIC showered the Eswatini National Darts Association (ENDA) 2019/20 league season with a lucrative E120 000 that is yet to be launched. The sponsorship package has seen a E20 000 increment from last year’s E100 000. ESRIC General Manager Zama Ngcobo said they were happy with the way the league was being played and administered. He said a large chunk of the sponsorship benefitted the teams in terms of prizes and participation as the administration fees claimed a large chunk.

He said there was no reason to stop their continued support for the sport. Ngcobo announced the sponsorship in the presence of Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, who was highly praised for being the first minister to grace a darts event. “We started this partnership with the darts association some years ago; I believe around 2004 and the first sponsorship was E10 000. It was big money at that time but we are happy that we have grown together in the past year and for the coming season, the sponsorship will be E120 000.

“We are not only in darts in the country but we also sponsor other sporting codes including soccer through the Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation and golf among others,” he said.
Minister of Sports Bulunga said he had been itching to be a part of darts festivities for a long time now. “I should take this moment now to congratulate the Eswatini National Darts Association under whose sound leadership and sustained efforts, darts has grown in leaps and bounds in Eswatini. “Darts as a sport was first played in the country at the year of independence in 1968 and the tremendous growth that the sport has achieved through that time, particularly over the last few years, is commendable,” he said. He said they commended the association for taking the sport to schools, platforms which offer the country opportunities to mould the stars of tomorrow.
