EZULWINI – Former South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs star Punch Masenamela has been released by his latest employers, Mbabane Highlanders.

It has surfaced that he was allegedly de-registered even before the match against Milling Hot Spurs which Highlanders won 1-0 at Somhlolo National Stadium over a week ago.
“He was included in the team list against Milling Hot Spurs when already the secretariat had been told to exclude him as he had been de-registered by then and this did not go down well with the technical bench and some management officials,” said an impeccable source.

As if to prove our sources right, Highlanders yesterday unveiled new signings at the Royal Swazi Spa Hotel and Convention Centre. While some of these have already played, the club still went on and officially unveiled them, with only one foreigner in former Orlando Pirates striker Patrick ‘Nando’s Masela. There were also at least three youngsters with one from Green Mamba’s development and two from Denver Sundowns’ juniors. These are Melusi Ngwenya, who is also a scholar at Langeni High School and the one who scored a hat-trick in the schools finals recently, Melusi Magagula (right full-back), Siphelele Dlamini, who is coach Zenzele ‘Ace’s son and a right wing attacking midfielder.

Others are Sakhile Dlamini, a midfielder from regional football side Don Don FC under the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA); Mthunzi Hlanze from Shiselweni’s Young Movers who plays both defence and attack along with national team young midfielder Lindani ‘Rio’ Matsenjwa, who has featured for Highlanders in more than two games already.
Missing the function was attacking midfielder Phumlani Ngwenya, returning defender Mncedisi Dlamini, who just renewed his contract while also back was towering defender Simphiwe Manana, who also just renewed his contract with the club.

All the players were registered last week, Highlanders’ Patron Benson Dlamini explained during the unveiling ceremony yesterday. In total, he said they signed nine players and were also concluding paperwork for former Chippa United attacking midfielder Thabo ‘Chinaman’ Maselwa. “We won’t say who we are de-registering but before the end of the week we will announce who of our foreign players we sacrificed. It can be anyone of our foreigners,” Highlanders’ South African boss Chief Ally Kgomongwe responded to the question of who was sacrificed if Masela was already registered.
