MBABANE – Ezinkhulu, as Mbabane Citizens are fondly known want South Africa’s (SA) Isaac Maja to take them back to the elite league next season.

Maja is a former assistant coach at Baroka FC, a team that plies its trade in SA’s Premier Soccer League (PSL). However, this was before the side gained a promotion to the Absa Premiership in 2016. “We have resolved our coaching position as Ezinkhulu and our new coach is experienced, having worked with top coaches in South Africa. He’s Isaac Maja from South Africa and has worked with coach Thobejane at Baroka as assistant coach.

“We’ve given him two years as we plan to return to the premier league with him as our head coach,” confirmed Citizens’ PRO Thabiso Manyatsi yesterday. He explained that Maja recently completed his CAF Licence B but since his results are yet to be out, he would be working with a provisional certificate from his country and submitted to the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).  He said Maja was a qualified physician, which would benefit the club more than just his tactics.

Promotion

He said that their intentions were to regain promotion by the end of the season and be back in the top flight after only one season out due to relegation. “He started working on Monday and the players are already getting to know him,” he said. Manyatsi further thanked then Zambian coach Happy Simfukwe who they parted ways with two games into the league that did not go well in terms of expected results. Citizens have amassed five points from four games and find themselves placed on sixth and four points behind leaders Tambankulu Callies.
