NGWENYA – Bidvest Wits captain Thulani Hlatshwayo says they will take their first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup seriously.

The Bafana Bafana defender said CAF tournaments were a priority for each and every team in Africa. He was speaking upon arrival at the Ngwenya Border Gate yesterday ahead of today’s showdown with Young Buffaloes.

The ‘Clever Boys’ brought a squad of 18 players and eight officials. They arrived on board an Ikapa Tours and Travel Coach bus. The players were clad in their black kappa t-shirts and shorts upon arrival. Almost all the players were busy on their iPhone X perhaps tweeting that they have landed in the Kingdom of Eswatini.  According to the transfer market, the students squad is worth over E150 000 with the captain Hlatshwayo valued at over E20 million.

The Johannesburg-based team arrived at the border gate at around 1:45pm.They were led by the Director of the team George Mogotsi. He also confirmed that the coach, Gavin Hunt, arrived early and he was already at their booked destination, which is the Royal Swazi Spa in Ezulwini.

“CAF is a very important tournament. CAF has been a priority for each and every team so we are no exception. If you can look at the squad that we brought, which are players who play regularly in the PSL so this is how serious we take this tournament,” the skipper said.

He also said that despite that Young Buffaloes was a closed book to them; they were here for a win.
Meanwhile, Wits left-back Sifiso Hlanti said their mission was to get positive results despite that they were playing away.
“We have no idea about Young Buffaloes. We are looking to playing against them. We are positive that we are going to win. It will not be an easy game but we need to ensure we get positive results,” he said.

However, Bidvest coach Gavin Hunt insisted that the tournament was not top priority.
“Financial wise the CAF tournaments are not viable. Even if you win the finals, you lose money so it’s not a priority to us. We will just play it just for the sake that we have to play.

We only brought 18 players and six players have been left behind.Offcourse if the game favours us, we can score that necessary away goal. But we are not focusing much on this tournament,” the former Supersport United coach said.
The two sides will clash at Mavuso Sports Centre tomorrow at 3:30pm.
