MBABANE – Athletics Eswatini (AE) has taken new steps in improving the standard and professionalising the sport in the country.

The association yesterday unveiled its new logo in the presence of Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, where it outlines its future plans on incorporating the sport with professionalism and business.

AE President Zakhele Dlamini described the luncheon held at the glamorous Hilton Garden Inn Hotel yesterday as the re-birth of the federation. EA hosted a business breakfast meeting that was attended by companies’ representatives, administrators and athletics officials among others. “We are gathered here to witness a re-birth of our federation, which will be a trailblazer in nurturing athletics talent which will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

If I were to give a name to the rejuvenated federation we are talking about, it would be ‘Athletics sport as a profession and business’. It is my firm conviction that together we can build athletics as a business and a profession to our young upcoming athletes and generations to come, only if we work together as reliable partners, who are determined to win in everything we do,’ he said.

opportunities

Dlamini said sports had the ability to attract tourist who brought with them foreign currency. He said they wanted to maximise the opportunities for athletes to showcase their talent in the biggest world stage. Minister Bulunga said the unveiling of the new logo signifies AE new desire to take a business approach to their operations, something that they highly appreciate.

“We therefore congratulate Athletics Eswatini for taking this business approach which we have no doubt will take the standard of athletics in the country to uncharted heights. I now urge local corporates to support Athletics Eswatini in its quest to changing the face of local athletics. Indeed, without proper financial investment, only minimal growth can be achieved in sport,” he said.
