LOBAMBA – Ali Matse was the hero after he provided two assists and scored to steer Young Buffaloes to an emphatic win over newcomers Milling Hot Spurs.

The elite league rookies Spurs got a rude welcome in their opening game of the MTN Premier league following a 4-0 hammering at the hands of the Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze-less army side at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday.

‘Saviola’, who was expected to make his first appearance after missing Buffaloes’ CAF Confederation Cup away match against Buildcon F.C of Zambia due to injury, was seen on the stands having a chat with Sihlangu head coach Kostadin Papic before the game. It appeared that he might have not fully recovered from his injury, which also forced him to miss Sihlangu’s African Nations Championships (CHAN) two-legged qualifying matches which were against Angola recently.

The Dominic Kunene-led charges were firing from all cylinders in the opening stages of the game but were made to sweat until the 38th minute. It was undoubtedly a man of the match performance by Matse, who delivered a pinpoint cross which met Sihlangu Mkhwanazi, who rose highest to head home, making it 1-0 seven minutes from halftime.

An in-swinger corner by Matse found Wandile Maseko unmarked inside the danger zone and he headed from close range to make it 2-0 in the 46th minute. Matse finally got his goal after providing two assists. He tapped in a Mpendulo ‘Mpetha’ Dlamini cross to stretch their lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute.

Buffaloes’ defender Siboniso Mamba was given the marching orders by referee Thembinkhosi Dlamini after he hacked Lungelo Nyoni on the hour mark at the edge of the box. The resultant free kick by Lwazi Bhembe was easily saved by the army side goalkeeper and captain Nhlanhla Gwebu.

Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba also registered his name on the scorers’ chart after he finished off a Wandile ‘Skosh’Shabangu rebound shot from the right flank in the 77th minute.
