They are primed for battle. All roads lead to Somhlolo National Stadium for what can be dubbed a ‘Super Sunday’.  The country’s football heavyweights in Mbabane Highlanders, Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers alongside holders Green Mamba begin their journey in the new campaign of the MTN Premier League. These are teams with scores to settle following unfavourable results in previous meetings.

Blockbuster and crackerjack are some of the adjectives that can best describe these fixtures which are likely to pack the Somhlolo National Stadium to its rafters.
Green Mamba begin their title defence against Mbabane Highlanders. It is a repeat of the past season’s decider. Caleb Ngwenya’s men had to grind a 1-0 win in this fixture to claim the league title.

The game will be a curtain-raiser for another potential ferocious showdown between Wanderers and Swallows. This game needs no introduction, as it is one of the biggest rivalries in local football.

It is a second meeting in seven days following last Sunday’s match-up in the Charity Cup semi-final, which Wanderers won by a solitary goal. In fact Wanderers now boast a rare two-game unbeaten run against the capital city giants following a 2-1 win in the last league meeting early this year.

There is more than the three points at stake and the mental preparedness of the players will be put to the test.
Below is a breakdown of the fixtures, as the chase for the E350 000 first round ‘carrot’ and the ultimate prize (league title) officially begin.
