SIBUSISO ‘BOLTS’ TO 2ND FINISH IN GERMANY’S 100M

MBABANE – The country’s sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa made it during the Pader Leichtathletics meeting in Germany on Saturday night.

Matsenjwa clocked his personal best time of 10:22 seconds as he finished second in the 100m earning a silver medal and a podium finish. Coming second in the event also handed him the All Africa Games qualifying ticket. Matsenjwa was outpaced by South Africa’s sprinter Thando Roto who clocked 9:95 seconds to finish first taking home the gold medal. Matsenjwa is in Europe for about a month with three other athletes where they are training and also competing.

Matsenjwa said he was happy with his performance and the fact that he beat the All Africa Games qualifying time. “It was a great win as this was my first race since we arrived about a fortnight ago. I’m now looking forward to my next competitions billed for July 24 in Belgium,” he said. The Royal Eswatini Police Services (REPS) athlete is also preparing for the the 17th edition of the IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held between September 27 and October 6, 2019 in Doha, Qatar.

Qualifies

Lady sprinter Phumlile Ndzinisa also qualifies for the All Africa Games in 100m where she clocked 11:08 seconds while the qualifying time is 11:09 seconds. This is her first time qualifying for the games especially after her injury in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other athletes who have qualified for the All Africa Games are high jumper Erikah Seyama and Andile Lusenga while Thandaza Zwane also stands a chance of making it. The 12th Africa Games will take place from August 19 to 31, 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. This will be the first time for Morroco to host the All Africa Games. The country through the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games (EOCGA) and the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) is still to announce the team to represent the country.
