UEDF END REPS DOMINANCE

MAFUTSENI – A formidable Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEFD) A team brought to an abrupt halt the dominance of Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS).

This was during the fourth edition of the Governor’s Shooting Tournament which was held at Mzimpofu Shooting Range yesterday. Also present during the tournament was Central Bank of Eswatini Governor Majozi Sithole and Prince Bandzile among other guests. The army side accumulated 707 points to take home a floating trophy and E2 500 first prize. The winning team included Lusekwane Dlamini, Muzi Mkhwanazi, Sinenkhosi Shongwe and Mbongiseni Dlamini. Dlamini contributed the highest points as he managed 240 points while Shongwe, Mkhwanazi and Lusekwane also came onboard with 236 231 and 226 respectively.

UEDF manager Apollo Ngwenya congratulated the team for the perfect display on the day. “We are proud of these players. They fought like true soldiers and the results are true reflections of their display. REPS have won this trophy for three consecutive times. We had to bring this dominance to an end,” Ngwenya said. Asked on the secret to winning the tournament, Ngwenya conceded that they had to recruit and train new players. “Some of these players who excelled are new players. We trained them and they have been very good and today they proved to be very competitive,” he added.

Coming second was REPS on 705 points. The team was made of Nhlanhla Sithole, Nhlanhla Thomo, Phinda Mlambo and Dumile Bhembe. Speaking on behalf of REPS A team, Dumisa Bhembe noted that they were not as firm as they used to be in previous tournaments. “We had minor mistakes and sometime we panicked and lacked courage as the going got tough. Otherwise the team tried their best but in the end we lost. However we will bounce back next year,”Bhembe said. Completing the top three spot in the security forces category was UEDF B on 702 .REPS B come fourth on 688 points while UEDF C came fifth on 652. In the non-security category Matsapha Shooting Club A were the winners accumulating 673 points while Central Bank of Eswatini came second on 656 points.
