MANZINI – Milling Hotspurs left back Manqoba Maseko was the biggest winner in yesterday’s Milling Hotspurs Football Club Awards at Manzini Club.

The team gathered to celebrate their promotion to the elite league next season and rewarded some of the excelling players. Maseko turned out to be main man when he scooped the biggest gong in the Player of the Year award. This is after he assisted the team achieve their target of being promoted to the Premier League after finishing second in the National First Division League. Taking pole position then was Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows.

The well-organised awards saw seven players including Maseko take home glamorous trophies. He was presented with the award by their former player and coach Themba ‘Cilo’ Mavuso. Maseko said he was excited with the award and it would motivate him to work even harder in the elite stage.

“It was really a tough season as we wanted at all cost to get promoted and we wanted to win the title but we managed second. Thanks to the team’s leaders for doing such a thing for us and I’m confident that we will have a strong debut in the Premier League as we are already motivated,” he said.

However, Maseko missed out on the Chairman’s Award as it went to Fanose Ncongwane, who joined the team in 2010 from Fairview North. The club’s Chairman, Ivan Munroe, said Ncongwane was one of the dedicated players and he had shown his loyalty to the team as he had spent about nine years of his career playing for the club.

“He was part of us when we started the project and he has been dedicated since then. I’m confident that this award will motivate him. It was a long road and working as a family was our strongest point. We are still young in this game and we are ready to learn from those who have walked the way. Thanks for the support we are getting from all stakeholders and I hope that we will achieve our goal of competing well in the Premier League,” he said.
