NGCOSENI – Sihlangu head coach Kostadin Papic is a very good coach but his style of play might not suit Eswatini football.

These are the feelings of South African ABSA Premiership legendary footballers who had come to the country to attend Ngwempisi Member of Parliament (MP) Mthandeni Dube’s thanksgiving ceremony held at Ngcoseni Central High School yesterday.

Among the visiting renowned footballers were former Orlando Pirates and now Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali and former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye. Others were former Orlando Pirates star Thulasizwe Mbuyane and ex- Free State Stars and Maritzburg United player Thabo Mashego, among others.

This was based on the fact that a number of the players knew him on a personal level as he once coached them while they were either with Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs.
Among those interviewed was Mbuyane, who said the Serbian strategist has done well for himself as a coach and was a reputable coach.

“Yes, he is a good coach who has done well for himself on his career but it might be a challenge for him to coach in Swaziland (Eswatini),” said Mbuyane.
Asked on why he thought coaching the locals might give Papic challenges, the former ‘Buccaneers’ of Orlando star said it would have been easier for the coach if there was a big number of Eswatini players who played either in South Africa or in other countries abroad.

“Otherwise he is a good coach and I am sure he will do his best to put Eswatini at the place where it should be,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mashego also shared similar sentiments with Mbuyane.

“He has coached me and he is a good coach but I am not sure if the style of play and system is going to suit Swazi (Eswatini) football,” said the former Maritzburg player. Mashego said he could not confirm if Papic was the right man for Sihlangu until he had seen him executing his duties.
“He believes in attacking football,” said Mashego.

On another note, Jali asked not to comment on the subject matter for personal reasons.
Meanwhile, a few players from local teams also showed up during the thanksgiving ceremony full of entertainment as Mzwakhe Myeni, his wife and other choir members kept the audience on their feet with good music.
