MLILWANE – South Africa-born Christo Carelsen did not only celebrate a fourth straight win but also set a new record for the Nedbank Imvelo Mountain Bike Classic.

He clocked an improved ‘golden’ time of 3:08:14 hours in the 19th edition of the race, which started and finished at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. This is 5:18 minutes faster when compared to last year’s time of 3:13:21 hours. He beat over 70 cyclists that participated in the 65km main race.

He beat second-placed Dewald Lotter, who crossed the finish line in 3:10:28 hours. Carlesen said despite the tough competition he was determined to win it.
“From the onset, I ensured that I set a high pace and led from the start. It was not easy as there were uphills but I endured the challenge. Otherwise, the route was amazing and what a beautiful scenario. It was an enjoyable experience,” the Nelspruit-based cyclist said.

He highlighted that he would be back next year to make it five in a row. The first liswati to cross the finish line was Sihawu Dlamini, who clocked a time of 03:27:15 hours while overall he finished in position five.
