MBABANE – Eswatini international Justice ‘Figa’ Figareido is likely to feature for his former side Manzini Sundowns next weekend during the Bible Society Cup.

He currently belongs to South Africa’s ABSA Premiership side Maritzburg United. This year’s edition has seen the addition of two more teams in Moneni Pirates and Mbabane Highlanders. ‘Figa’ is set to feature as a guest player.

The first two editions only featured hub buddies Manzini Wanderers and Manzini Sundowns and both teams have tasted glory.
For this year’s edition, Figareido is targeted by Sundowns to be one of the guest players to feature for the team during the tournament.
planned

The team’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Muzi Matsenjwa, confirmed when contacted yesterday that indeed they planned on having their former player in ‘Figa’ as one of the three guest players to feature for the hub giants during the tournament.
“We are still to follow the official channels of engaging his team Maritzburg United to allow him the chance to be part of this tournament,” said the PRO.

Matsenjwa disclosed that the team had spoken to Figareido and he showed strong interest in being part of the Sondowns team for the Bible Society Cup.
“Figareido has a celeb status at Sundowns and it will be a good marketing platform to have him play during the tournament,” Matsenjwa said.

The Bible Society Church Relations Officer John Lukhele said each team was allowed three guest players as per the rules and regulations of the tournament.

history

He said it was a good time for emaSwati to come and witness history as this was the only tournament in the globe where people would gain entry to watch football by producing a Bible at the entry point.

“The aim is for all people to own a Bible. There is no tournament in the world, in Africa or even the SADC region, where people gain entry through producing a Bible,” he said.
Lukhele said such an initiative should be considered for the Guinness World Records Book.
