MBABANE – It’s back to action for basketball teams as they will kick off the MTN Basketball League games this weekend.

The Coronation Park will be the first to host the opening matches on Saturday while the games will move to the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday. Swaziland National Basketball Association (SNBA) new Secretary Noma Mkhombe said it would be an action packed day for basketball lovers as they were looking forward to a vibrant start. He said fans were also expected to come in numbers to support their favourite teams.

Sponsorship

This will be the third year since MTN Eswatini took over the national basketball league in terms of sponsorship. Mkhombe announced that only new teams would be joining the leagues and they were Usuthu and Elangeni.

Usuthu affiliated with two teams being males and females. The ladies team trade as Usuthu Beavers to play in the National Women’s League (NWL) while the male team will trade as Usuthu Wolves with Elangeni only providing a male’s team that will campaign in the Men’s Promotion League.

“This league will be different from the others as we are still trying to secure other venues outside the Mbabane and Manzini corridor where the games will be played. We want to take the sport to the people,” he said.
