MAPUTO – “Let’s embrace bodybuilding,”  These remarks were made by Matsapha Police College Commandant Vusi Masuku, after the Maputo Classic in Mozambique where Eswatini bodybuilders won silver and bronze medals in their divisions.

The competition, which was held in Gilberto Mendes on Saturday, was one of the Arnold Classic Africa qualifiers competitions.
Masuku, who led the police forces athletes to Mozambique, appreciated all the bodybuilders’ enthusiasm and for hoisting the Kingdom’s flag high.
He applauded them for their hard work, determination and achievements, highlighting that there was ample room for improvement.

“Let us embrace bodybuilding and value it like other sports in the Kingdom of Eswatini. It may not be a popular sport in our country but we have seen its benefits and the determination displayed by the athletes, so it is high time we value it for its worth,” said Masuku.

He said the sport benefited the athletes’ strength and physique, emphasising that it was crucial for police officers in their line of duty.
Police officers, Sanele Ndlamlendze and Nkosini Masuku scooped silver medals while Siboniso Ndlela and Senzo Dlamini brought home bronze.

Ndlamlendze and Ndlela competed in the Under-70kg classic bodybuilding category, while Dlamini and first time competitor, Masuku featured the big guns in the Under-90kg.

“The sport helps in improving and maintaining physical fitness. Police officers, in particular, should be physically fit and not walk slavishly but up right and strong.

“I would like to thank bodybuilder and training instructor, Arnaldo Barbosa, for encouraging and organising all the athletes to join the competition. His passion for the sport is highly commendable,” added the commandant.
