SIKHUPHE – TZD Athletics Club athlete Sithembile Nzalo gave Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) runner Winile Mnisi a run for her money in the 21km Yellow Epilepsy Charity Half Marathon yesterday.

The 22-year-old finished the race in 1:38 minutes while Mnisi, who has been unstoppable in road races, crossed the finish line after 1:42 minutes. The race was held along the Sikhuphe road where over 400 athletes competed.

Nzalo said it all came from hard work and dedication. She said Mnisi had dominated for a long time but she was ready for the challenge.
“It was a good race despite the challenge at first. The route is flat and there are no tough heels like other races. I started well and got the better of her half way through the race. I’m so happy with this triumph because my last competition was in November last year during the Manzini Striders race where I came second behind Mnisi,” she said.

surprise

It was no surprise when Umbutfo Eswatini Defense (UEDF) long distance runner Melusi Sihlongonyane crossed the finish line first during the 21km male category.

He finished on time of 1:14 minutes. Sihlongonyane has been dominant in the country’s half marathons with his team-mate Veli Dlamini, who only ran about a kilometre. The first road race event in 2019 drew a crowd of about 500 athletes.
