MBABANE – Two years after missing in national competitions, Mhlatane High School officially returned yesterday.

Their presence along with Thembelisha School lit up the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) gala at Sifundzani Primary School swimming pool.
They each brought about 20 swimmers to the gala. Mhlatane High is not new to swimming competitions but they took a two-year break, only competing with some private schools. Their swimming coach Khawulani Mhlanga said the interest from the pupils saw them deciding to compete at national level again.

‘We are back full force now in swimming and we brought a team of 18 pupils. Nothing much we can say concerning the competition today (yesterday) because the pupils are new and they have to get used (to competing) first, then we will expect results,” he said. The school is training at the Pigg’s Peak Club. He said they welcomed every pupil. Mhlanga said they were facing a challenge of having less time for training as they spend one hour daily.
Meanwhile, Thembelisha School coach, Mpumie Malaza said a majority of the swimmers were making debuts in a national competition.

“There is so much interest from the pupils and we decided to involve one of the experienced coaches in the country, Xoli Mpanza. We believe that he will assist in developing the swimmers to be competitive,” she said.
