MBABANE – Mass participation at its best in weekly Mbabane Parkrun/Walk as 80 Waterford students led to record-breaking participation.

For the first time in its 92 runs, the Parkrun/Walk recorded 165 participants, the highest attendance ever in the timed run from Mbabane Club through Golf Course to Eveni and back, just five kilometres every Saturday to promote health and fitness.

The Waterford College students came not just to win but to improve their physical fitness in preparation for their annual 21-day hike around the kingdom’s plains. Most of the excited pack of scholars brought along their backpacks and preferred walking while some challenged veteran athletes to complete the full sprint run. The run is open to all members of the public and commences at 7:45am. Most runners complete this course within 30 minutes.

“This was a fun and challenging experience for me and I am looking forward to my next attendance,” said first time runner, Tal Uzan Tidhar, who is also one of the students. He clocked in within 25 minutes.
According to one of the event organisers, Sebbie Du Pont, the students are expected to be part of the weekly run/walk for the next six months.

He also encouraged them to register with Parkrun since only six of them were official runners/walkers.
“This is the best attendance ever and we are grateful to the school’s principal for allowing the students to join us. This is more than an inspiration to other youngsters to keep up a healthy and fit body,” said Du Pont.
