MBABANE – Winner of the KPMG Swazi Mile Chris Stapley will swim about 25km in the Aquelle Midmar 2019 billed for this weekend.

This is the world largest open water swim and it is scheduled for the Midmar Dam, Howick, KwaZulu Natal (KZN). Stapley will be swimming for charity to assist the Swaziland Animal Welfare Society (SAWS). The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Stapley showed his prowess when he finished the Swazi Mile (About 1.6km) on 27:05 minutes at the Luphohlo Dam.
“I started my preparations for the Midmar around June last year and my monthly mileage has slowly increased over the past six months as well as speed.

The training has been done in both the pool and in open water, which is Luphohlo Dam.I have swum about two times a week out at the dam, which is imperative for open water training to learn to deal with wind, waves, cold, rain and sun among other things,” he said. Stapley said the Luphohlo Dam was working wonders for them as it was good for training.

“We are fortunate to have such a beautiful dam on our doorstep. Training has been going well, with a max monthly mileage of 122km swum in December and slightly less in January - 105km. Last week we had a couple of short slow swims in readiness for the race this coming weekend.
