MATSAPHA – MTN Khemani shining cyclists Sicelo Phiri and Lungelo Mlangeni have found a new home at fast growing club Dig Deep.

The pair switched camps over two weeks ago and raced under their new team’s banner during last Sunday’s OK Foods-sponsored Individual Time Trial (ITT) at Phocweni outside Matsapha. Phiri was wearing a national team jersey which was presented to him after he won the national road championships in April 2016 while Lungelo also did not parade in MTN Khemani colours.

Phiri, who represented the country in the Continental Road Championships in February 2017, confirmed joining Dig Deep, thanking MTN Khemani for grooming him.

“I’ve achieved a lot under Khemani, but it’s time to move on,” he said.
Also leaving Khemani is Wiseman Jele, who is said to have joined the vastly improved 4EVA club.

MTN Khemani Club Assistant Manager Sabelo Maziya confirmed that the club amicably parted ways with the trio, but stressed that it did not mean that the cyclists were not good enough.

“We’re refining our team and we are entering our next stage of our development.
“We are building a strong team, so we’ve opted for cyclists with almost the same strength,” he said.

Ngcamphalala disclosed that they were currently developing the quartet of Muzi Shabangu, Mduduzi Zwane, Similo Nyoni and Philani Ngcamphalala.
Meanwhile, another top cyclist to have joined Dig Deep from MTN Khemani in the past is the shining Gcina Banda.
