MBABANE – Out Caleb Ngwenya, in Velekhaya Mthethwa. That is the story of the race for the Sihlangu assistant coaching post.  Ngwenya, who had allegedly been earmarked for the position of deputising for Sihlangu coach Kostadin Papic, has allegedly declined the post.

Reports from sources had suggested Ngwenya had been withdrawn from the race by the management committee, but Green Mamba CEO Thami Phakathi refuted the claims.
“Green Mamba is not party to national team issues.

“There was no correspondence from the FA regarding an interest in Ngwenya,” said Phakathi.

shortlisted

The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical and Development Committee had also shortlisted Manzini Wanderers’ Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati and the duo of Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane and Dominic Kunene from Royal Leopard and Young Buffaloes. All three coaches have now been reportedly interviewed alongside surprise inclusion Velekhaya Mthethwa, who is head coach of the national Under-17s side.

The date for the announcement of Papic’s right hand man is yet to be confirmed. He was yet to respond to a message sent to his phone at the time of compiling this report.

Meanwhile, Mbabane Swallows’ physical trainer Siyabonga Bhembe and his Manzini Wanderers counterpart Christian Thwala, according to reports, have been shortlisted for the position of Sihlangu fitness coach.

included

EFA Technical and Development Committee Chairman Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula could only confirm that Mthethwa was included in the list of hopefuls, but said he was not sure if the interviews had been concluded.

“Caleb declined from the onset, as he wanted to focus on his team.
“’I’m in no position to confirm whether the interviews have been concluded or not,” he said.
Ngwenya, on the other hand, could not be drawn for comment as his phone was apparently switched off for the better part of the day.
EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said issues pertaining to the technical bench would be discussed with the media during a planned briefing by the coach next week.
