MBABANE – Most teams will not be forced to sideline their recruits in this coming weekend’s Ingwenyama Cup quarter-finals except for Mbabane Swallows.

With the second window registration open since January 7, teams are bolstering their squads for both the second leg of the MTN Premier League as well as knockout tournaments.

Swallows have re-united with full-back Xolani ‘Tyson’ Magagula, who was at Malanti Chiefs in the first round. He is ineligible to play for the capital city giants in Sunday’s quarter-final clash against Manzini Sundowns after playing for about 10 minutes for Malanti Chiefs in the latter’s win over Hlatikhulu Tycoons in the Last 32 of the tournament in Nhlangano late last year.

The player, who is known for his versatility, was being thrown into the deep end since his return to Swallows. On Tuesday, in the 2-0 league win over Malanti, he played as a right back and switched to the left when Sakhile Shongwe got injured.
Swallows PRO Jackson Dlamini conceded that the player was a valuable asset to the team, but said the available players would step into his shoes.
“It’s no use crying over spilt milk.

“We’ll use the available players,” he said.
Recruited players are ineligible to play for their new teams in the Ingwenyama Cup, if they’ve played for their old teams in the same edition of the tournament. This is as per the dictates of Article 4.2 of the tournament’s Rules and Regulations.

“A player shall not be eligible to play for more than one club in this competition,” reads the article in part.

Meanwhile, Sundowns have just recruited Muhle Shiba from Green Mamba. The security forces ensemble were eliminated in the first hurdle of the tournament by National First Division side Madlenya and Shiba did not feature in the game. As a result, he can play on Sunday.

Other teams involved in the quarter-finals are Malanti, Tinyosi, Royal Leopard, Young Buffaloes, Mbabane Highlanders and Matsapha United. They all had no cup-tied player at the time of compiling this report late yesterday.
