MBABANE – It has been a rollercoaster ride for Eswatini Basketball team in the Young Lions Cup.

The tournament is currently ongoing in Gaborone, Botswana where 10 countries are contesting for the trophy.

Eswatini are in group B and have so far managed to win one game. They beat hosts Botswana 9-7 to keep their chances of qualifying to the semi-finals. They lost their opening game against Zimbabwe 4-9.They also suffered another defeat to Zambia before beating the hosts on Saturday night. Coach Bheki ‘Size’ Nxumalo said the team played well but were unfortunate to lose.

“The first game against Zimbabwe was tough because they are defending champions. Then came the Zambia game, we had a challenge because the heat was too much and we adjusted very late into the game,” Nxumalo said.

“When we played Botswana, it was evening and the weather was just perfect. The weather favoured us and we were able to perform,” he said.
Two teams will qualify for the semi-finals in each group. In Group A, Seychelles are leading and are likely to advance to the last four.
