MBABANE – A person who sets goals for himself and achieves them with perseverance is absolutely admirable.

After a long season of hard work, determination and sacrifice, Zithande Athletics Club celebrated the achievements of athletes who have outdone themselves. Some of these athletes were honoured for hoisting the kingdom’s flag in the 90km Combrades Marathon, where they received silver medals.

Some athletes were recognised in various categories such as the most improved runner, the biggest loser, most dedicated runner, most participating athlete, most supportive family, runner of the year and most exciting runner. Eswatini’s national police side athlete, Winile Mnisi, was honoured as the queen of the road and commended for joining most of the club’s marathons and boot camps unapologetically.

 graced

The club’s awards ceremony was held at Zakhele Community Hall on Saturday after a 50km run which started at Mafutseni and ended at Manzini. The event was graced by athletes from South Africa. Conducting the certificates presentation was the club’s coach and founder, Nsizwa Thwala, who gratified all the club members for their hard work and unity that exists in the club.

Thwala encouraged his athletes to push harder in the gym and strive for excellence because a fitness lifestyle was a struggle, which demands discipline and honesty.

“At Zithande we encourage health and fitness, a goal only attainable through dedication, hard work and perseverance. The impact we have in the community is remarkable and people have changed their lives positively,” said Thwala.

The fitness coach said the certificates were his way of thanking and further motivating the athletes to work towards greater accomplishments and be prepared to withstand the pain that comes with it. Like the saying goes, ‘if you set out to find honey, be ready to be stung by bees’.

“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, dedication and perseverance. Coaching and changing people’s lives is an achievement for me and I am also grateful to my team for the immaculate support system that exists in our team,” Thwala added.

reminded

Thwala said his team has also helped him remain humble and always reminded of the training basics which he also applies while coaching them. He reminded them about the importance of respect and self-discipline, which he said are key elements of success. He further invited people struggling with weight issues to join Zithande Athletics Club and work towards the physique of their aspirations.

Thwala said his club has also welcomed a new member who is visually impaired and that was a learning curve for him as he says that he learnt to focus on his ability rather than disability.

The coach said he uses his voice to describe every move and step squats.“If a visually impaired person can do it then there is no excuse for others. We are a team and during road runs, we take turns assisting our new runner by holding his hand throughout the race, a practicality of unity at Zithande. Join us and make your body your business,” he concluded.
