PARKRUN MEETS BASKETBALL

MBABANE – The 88th edition of the Mbabane parkrun attracted members of the forceful Mbabane Jazz basketball team.

Taking to the trails for the weekly 5km timed run was a welcome change for at least eight members of the celebrated basketball side. Among the runners were Sifiso Nsibandze, Denis Van Reneen, Fitz Graham, Mzwandile ‘States’ Vilakati, Nhlanhla Dlamini. Others were Nosmilo Vilakati, Ziyanda Mkhonto and Lolo Mngometulu, who plays for the Lady Jazz.

The team was invited by regular parkrunner, Mzwandile ‘States’ Vilakati. Interviewed after the race Nhlanhla Dlamini conceded that it took convincing by Vilakati to make a stop at the parkrun.
“It was ‘States’ who kept reminding us every week that we needed to join the parkrun. We decided to come today and it was an amazing experience.

“It’s all about getting fit and healthy. It helps us to stay in shape as a team. We will certainly attend this race more often,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, the overall winner was Swazi Slojos runner Zwelithini Mdzebele, who clocked 17:54 minutes while Nobuhle Bhembe emerged as the winner under the ladies category. She finished the 5km race in 24:40 minutes.
