MBABANE – Teams are set to boycott league games following the uncertainty over the league sponsorship prize.

The Women Football Association (WFA) has released the league fixture for this weekend but teams’ coaches, who preferred to comment on terms of anonymity, said it would be tough for them to honour the league following the unknown league prize. Some of the coaches said they find it disturbing to compete in a league whose prize is not known.

“We are worried about playing for nothing because we completed the first round without knowing the sponsorship value for the league and disturbing enough is that the we paid a certain fee to participate in the league but we still do not know what we are playing for,” one of the teams’ coaches was quoted.
When sought for comment pertaining the league sponsorship matter, Women Football Association Chairman Sonnyboy Mabuza declined to respond.
“No, no, no! I have no comment and that is all I can say,” said Mabuza.

Article 12 of 2018/2019 Women Football National League (WFNL) rules and regulations provides: “Prizes and awards in the WFNL shall be implemented in terms of the agreement and or directives of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) as they are currently funding the WFNL.

Once the sponsorships are secured, they shall be implemented in terms of the agreements entered into between the WFA and the relevant sponsors and or partners. In a case where the agreements do not provide such, the Women Football Elections Council (WFEC) will determine the implementation of the prizes and awards.”

Meanwhile, attempts to contact Royal Leopard coach Xolile Dlamini were in vain as her mobile phone rang endlessly and went unanswered for the whole day yesterday. Some players, however, said they were ready to play regardless of the sponsorship uncertainty.

Manzini Wanderers ladies team captain, Mazwi Dube, said they were ready to face and defeat Langeni ladies on Saturday, a game billed for Phocweni sports ground, starting at noon. “It is very disappointing that we do not know what we are playing for but our fitness level is sky high and we are ready to win against Langeni Ladies in our opening match,” said Dube.
