MBABANE – Lubhaca Sports will present long-distance seminar and injury prevention management classes for five days at the OlympAfrica Development Centre.

Some of the topics to be covered during the seminar include history of long-distance running in the country, the current status of long running, goal setting, periodisation, speed training, biomechanicals of middle and long distance, modern strength training, among others. The classes will run between January 22 and 26.

The facilitators of the seminar will include Karen Gibbs, who is the elite sports physiotherapist who works with Olympic medalists, as well as Muzi Mabuza, who is Lubhaca Sports Director and Manzini Athletics Club (MAC) coach.
The other facilitator is Eward Ndlangamandla, who is the IAAF middle and long distance coach and he has been to multiple Commonwealth Games, All Africa Games and African Championships, among other events.
Other guest speakers will be the country’s number one sprinter and national record holder Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, who is a member of Lubhaca Sports.

Championships

Matsenjwa has been to two Olympics Games, four World Championships and two Commonwealth Games. The other is AAE Secretary Thoba Mazibuko.
Each individual interested to attend the seminar will pay E500.
“The country once performed well in long distance races but now it is no longer the same as we seem to have given focus to short distances. Now we believe it is the right time to attend to the challenge and we are hopeful that people will come all out to support and realise the dream of winning big at international events in the long distances,” he said.
MAC coach Muzi Mabuza said the country once dominated in long distance races but the standards have dropped in the past years.
