FLYERS AIM AT ’DOWNS SCALP

MBABANE – It is undoubtedly a very tricky game for elite Manzini Sundowns against the Lubombo Super League outfit, Ubombo Flyers.

Making it more interesting is that Flyers have already shown they can take on the Goliaths of local football and get positive results.
Who would have expected them to ‘fly’ over their elite rivals, Manzini Sea Birds in the Last 32? They did it and with great aplomb – they pushed their opponents to the limit with the game finishing 3-all in regular time.

They then won it 6-5 after the dreaded penalty shootout.
They face Sundowns today but in a different venue, one that has proven a letdown for most of the regional teams against their elite or First Division rivals due to the artificial turf. Most do it well for 45 to 55 minutes then lose it all due to the fatigue and get knocked out easily.

Can Flyers stand the turf and stun Sundowns out of the lucrative Ingwenyama Cup? It remains to be seen but history favours Sundowns who have in the last three editions got past this stage into the quarters. It is an interesting game to watch as the battle for the Last 8 goes on.
