MBABANE – She is sensational both inside the swimming pool and classroom. That is none other than swimmer record breaker Robyn Young who excelled in the Independent Examination Boards (IEB).

She is among the top 10 best performing students from Enjabulweni School. The results were released by the Head of Enjabulweni Kathy Thompson yesterday where the schools recorded a 100 per cent pass rate.
Young was also named the best senior female swimmer of the year during the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) awards.

Dominant

The 18-year-old has been dominant in local competitions. Secretary Lee Ann Young said as parents they were proud of her achievements. “It has been a difficult year juggling continental and international competitions with her schoolwork but she has remained focus and her diligence has paid off. As the swimming association we are always proud of our athletes who perform well both academically and in the swimming pool,” she said.

Young said they hoped that her achievements would be an inspiration to other female athletes showing that they too could achieve their sporting dreams as well as perform well academically.

Young said Robyn will hopefully be going to Stellenbosch University to do a BSc degree and swim with Cedric Finch one of the SA Head coaches.
Young had represented the country in some highly profiled swimming competition worldwide including the FINA World Championships, Youth Olympics Games in Argentina and African Championships among others. The Swim Lab swimmer is led by coach Welcome Nhlabatsi.

Best

Young recently represented the country in the Region V games held in Botswana where she clocked a personal best and new national record in the 100m backstroke event and made it to the finals.

She was with Sithembiso Mamba in the Region V Games. His coach Welcome Nhlabatsi in an earlier interview confirmed that his team, Swim Lab may lose the swimmer due to tertiary education this year but he hoped to also groom young coming up-stars including Swakhile Dlamini and Hayley Hoy among others.
