MBABANE – Seasoned golfer Valentine Maziya has attributed his superb conquest of the 2018 final MTN Monthly Masters competition to the betterball scramble drive format, which he said was different and interesting.

Maziya together with his partner Tim Mavuso scored 52 points in the betterball scramble drive to beat a field packed with close to 70 golf players from all walks of life. The pair won fabulous prizes, including a trophy and five gigabytes of MTN data.

“I got to know who my partner was just before tee-off. It was very interesting as I did not know his strength in the game. I’m happy we combined well and complemented each other very well. It was teamwork at the end that won us the game,” Maziya said.

He noted that the Mbabane golf course was in a beautiful condition as it normally is around this time of the year.
“I always look forward to playing the MTN Monthly Masters because it is a very competitive tournament and attracts quite a number of golfers. It doesn’t only come with a good prize, the winner also gets a trophy which is always my greatest inspiration.

Placed second on 51 points was the pair of Steven Mavuso and Dumisani Msibi after beating on a countback the likes of Siboniso Mkhwanazi and Wakie Lawrence.  On fourth position with 49 points and also winning on a countback was the duo of Rasheed Mohammed and Kate Ansley. Two pairs who also finished with 49 points were the likes of Sipho Sibondza and Nokuthula Dlamini together with Ronnie Mkhombe and Phayo Dhlamini.

Meanwhile, MTN Eswatini has assured that its popular monthly golf tournament hosted by Mbabane Club will be improved to become bigger and better next year.
Speaking during the prize presentation of this year’s final MTN Monthly Masters golf competition on Saturday, the Senior Manager Brand Communications and Sponsorships Meshack Maseko said his company was overwhelmingly excited by its partnership with Mbabane Golf Club.

“We’ve been keenly observing the way the sponsorship has been utilised and we’re very happy with almost everything pertaining to this tournament. We’re committed to make it happen even next year, but want it to be bigger and better,” Maseko said.
