MBABANE – Soccer fans will have a dose of Ingwenyama Cup action until the Christmas holidays.

After the end of the league first round matches in the past weekend, focus shifts to the celebrated Ingwenyama Cup from this coming Friday. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) CEO Simanga Nhleko, who was joined by Ingwenyama PRO Lenhle Masuku during a play-offs draw at Sigwaca House in Mbabane yesterday, said the Ingwenyama Cup was expected to be played over the next two weekends. “If there are no national events, we’re hoping to play the first two rounds of the tournament in the next two weekends and then break for the festive holidays,” said Nhleko.

Nhleko’s words were echoed by Masuku, who highlighted that there would be eight teams standing by the end of 2018. “We apologise for the delay in concluding the regional Ingwenyama Cup. There were national events this year, especially the elections,” said Nhleko. Following the developments, the league will resume next year on a date to be confirmed. Unlike in the past few seasons, there would be no second round games of the league before the Christmas holidays. Meanwhile, the 32-team Ingwenyama Cup, which has a revised E4 million purse, will be launched between tomorrow and Wednesday. At least 30 of the 32 teams have been confirmed. Two more slots will be up for grabs for the four teams that lost in the regional Ingwenyama Cup finals.  They will be involved in play-offs tomorrow at a venue to be announced today. Manchester from Hhohho will face Lubombo’s Mauritius while Luve Cosmos of Manzini have a date with Shooting Stars. The latter are from Shiselweni.
