MBABANE - “I dare you to join us for the inaugural annual end of the year run.”

These were the words of Happiness Mthethwa, Manzini Striders Athletics Club Public Relations Officer, inviting the nation to join the run which would take centre stage on Saturday, commencing and ending at Manzini Club.

The curtain is drawing to a close for the one-of-its-kind final run of the year before stepping into the festive season.  Registration is still open at Sneakers Mbabane, Fitness Zone – Manzini and in Simunye. Registration charges are fixed at E150 and E120 for 21km and 10km respectively.
Jump the gun

“It is only a matter of days before we jump the gun and I am inviting the nation to stand up to the challenge and join the final run of the year before the festive celebrations set off,” she said.

Numerous athletics clubs have confirmed to participate during the vent and these include Swazi Slojos, Team TZD, Golden Foot Manzini and Mbabane, Swaziland Royal Sugar Corporation (RSSC), Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF), Studio-Z including over 70 individuals who have already registered. Participants are expected to exceed the targeted 250 runners but Mthethwa emphasised that every individual would be a winner after the run.

Confirmed

“It has been confirmed that 250 first finishers will receive gold medals. Silver medals have also been reserved for 10km competitors clocking in within 30minutes and the cut off time for 21km silver medallists is 1hour 15minutes,” said Mthethwa.

She added that the overall cut of time for 10km is two hours while for 21km it stands at three hours 30 minutes. Starting time for both runs has been amended to commence at 6am for convenience reasons and inconsideration of the hot weather expected over the weekend.

Registered runners are advised to bring along their receipts and race numbers at Fitness Zone between 9am and 8pm when claiming their goodie bags. Sumptuous prizes have been tabled for winners and veteran athletes.
