MBABANE – The country’s rugby programme styled SKRUM continues to make waves across the globe after celebrating its 10th Anniversary with celebrated legends in the game in London.

A dinner for SKRUM was held at the hallowed ground of English rugby, Twickenham, in London over the past weekend. SKRUM is a charity that uses rugby to engage the youth, while also providing education on HIV/AIDS prevention.
At least 120 invited guests from businesses, schools and the media from throughout the United Kingdom attended the anniversary dinner. SKRUM CEO Michael Collinson, who was part of the festivities, was over the moon to celebrate with the world.
“It was truly an amazing evening held at the perfect venue.

“We invited everyone who has been a part of and supported SKRUM over the past 10 years. Those who were part of the celebrations included representatives from Marlborough College, Moulsford Prep, AKS Blackpool, Tavistock College, St Joseph’s College, Oundle School, Radley College and Rugby School, where the game of rugby was invented,” he disclosed.

Collinson said there were also guests from the media attending from CNN and the Rugby Journal. Past SKRUM volunteers could also not miss out.
“It was marvellous to have everyone together to celebrate our 10th year and say a big thank you to everyone for their support, generosity and commitment to SKRUM,” he stressed.
Guests for the evening were rugby greats in Ollie Phillips, who is ex-England Sevens captain and SKRUM ambassador as well as Australian rugby legend Michael Lynagh.

“It is hard to believe that SKRUM has been in existence for 10 years. We have achieved so much in those years. We could not have achieved what we have without the help of volunteers, schools and businesses who believed and supported our ideals and goals.
“I and all at SKRUM would like to thank everyone who has been there,” he said.
An auction of rugby memorabilia, on the other hand, was held on the night to raise funds for SKRUM. At the time of going to press the exact amount raised could not be ascertained. However, Collinson was confident it was a substantial amount. Some memorabilia, it was gathered, can cost up to E50 000.
