SIHLANGU CONFUSION IN MOTION

MANZINI – Watching the national team, Sihlangu is akin to visiting a dentist – you know it will hurt but you just don’t know how deep the pain will be.

The poorest crowd to ever watch Sihlangu since the tiny Kingdom of Eswatini gained Independence on September 6, 1968 – all 200 of them or so, did not even stay until Mauritian referee, Ahmad Heeralall blew his final whistle as the ‘Menas’ of Niger overturned a 1-0 first half deficit to a memorable 2-1 win in emphatic fashion. With Sihlangu having started brightly taking an early lead through Mlaba Nkambule, it looked like the nation’s pride were to bow out of the qualifiers with a win but only to capitulate like a flailing athlete having ran out of steam, going down 2-1 to the Dama Gazelle of Niger, who in all honesty, are not world beaters by an imagination. But Sihlangu is worse of.

With one game still to play against already qualified Tunisia on March 22, 2019, inept coach, Anthony Mdluli has a shocking record that reads: zero win in four games in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers; two goals and four defeats in a row. Chances of beating Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles away on March 22, 2019 are as remote as Yours Truly being the next Mr. Swaziland! Yesterday’s 2-1 loss, Niger’s first win in the qualifiers after Sihlangu had held them to a goalless draw on June 10 2017, could very well have been Mdluli’s last game in charge. Here are the FIVE things we learnt from another disastrous outing for the continent’s whipping boys.
