MBABANE – He is going to have to prove them wrong. That is new Zambian side, Zesco United signing Quadri Aledeokun Kola who left the country on Wednesday to join his suitors for an 18-month contract. The Nigerian striker was signed from Mbabane Swallows where he had been on loan from Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows.

He was not the only arrival in the Zesco squad but there are other strikers including former PSL side Baroka FC Lewis Macha. The duo has not been received well by some the fans who have questioned their signing when there were enough strikers in the club.

Soon after the club confirmed the two signings were a done deal in its website page, zambianfootball.co.zm and will be in their CAF Champions League campaign as of next week in Niger for the first leg, some of the Ndola-based outfit posted comments expressing concerns over the move.

In their comments, the logic behind adding strikers was strongly questioned while some said the club needed to have more stars to compete in the Champions League and also be effective domestically.

The fans against the signings argued that they already many strikers and the latest signings take the figures to 12 and these also include Ghanaian arrival Rahim Osumanu from Buildcon on a free transfer.

One supporter who wrote that Zesco had good intensions but clearly stated that he did not understand why have 12 forwards.  This is what the supporter who uses the name ‘Sibs’ posted on the web page;

“Good intentions by ZEGA. I’m just wondering why so many attacking players? 12 forwards?”
Another supporter also wanted clarity on whether Zesco planned on offloading some of the forwards and this is what he wrote. “Good business but are they planning to offload some attackers? What’s the plan?”
As the posts kept coming, one fan wrote that the club had explained earlier in the week that it would have 28 players registered for CAF while others would only play a role domestically as they had ambitions to go beyond the group stage and also be dominant domestically.
However, the fans’ concerns had not yet been officially addressed yet and the players are also still up for a formal unveiling ceremony. Kola is expected to seal everything in the coming week after passing his medical on Thursday morning.
Also signed by the club is former Kabwe Warriors Captain, Clement Mundia. Kola’s manager and agent Charles Matsebula could not be drawn to comment on this, saying it was about Zesco and did not conern him. Matsebula is expected to fly to Zambia in the new week to seal the transfer set to see the striker earn E60 000 monthly salary.
He will debut against Niger’s AS Sonidep on either November 27 or 28.
