LOBAMBA – Another upset for Green Mamba. This is after Malanti Chiefs handed the correctional side the second consecutive loss in the MTN Premier League here yesterday.

In their previous league match, Mamba suffered a 2-1 defeat against capital giants, Mbabane Highlanders and the 1-0 defeat against Malanti means that they have now lost two games of the league with no draw and eight wins.

Mamba remains log leaders despite the two losses with 24 points in 10 games played.
From the onset, Malanti forward, Binwell Katinji, gave the green and white outfit trouble at the back but Captain Banele Dlamini led the defence and kept compact.

It was not for too long as Malanti cracked Mamba’s defence right at the half-hour mark.
Thanks to the troublesome Kantinji who scored his fifth goal of the league this season which eventually handed the Pigg’s Peak based side all three points.

delivery

The striker connected a left wing play after Asive Langa made a superb delivery into the box and Mamba players failed to clear the ball that took a slight deflection from the gloves of goalkeeper Thokozani Mkhulusi.

Kantinji was well positioned in the box and the ball was right before him for an easy finish to give Malanti a one-goal lead.
A few minutes later, Thabiso Gumba, should have given Mamba an equaliser as the Caleb Ngwenya-led charges threw more numbers to the front in search of a goal.

The left-back had his free-kick strike just wide at 18-yards and teammate Njabulo Thwala’s long range effort two minutes later was also inches wide.
When referee Letticia Viana blew for the breather, Mamba still could not find the target.

Langa almost added to Mamba’s woes two minutes into the second stanza with a loop that almost beat Mamba keeper, Mkhulisi, but was just wide.
Mamba was then all over the Raymond Dlamini-led charges in search for that equaliser and Malanti opted to throw all their numbers back leaving Kantitji at the front as a lone striker.

Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo was unlucky not to score for Mamba as his first chance was ruled off-side.
The winger also had a perfect chance to score for the correctional side only to have his shot hit the goal post towards the dying minutes of the game as there was a scramble in the box where Malanti keeper, Xolani Gama, had initially saved Thwala’s effort at goal.

Referee Viana added seven minutes after regulation but Mamba failed to find a goal and it was Malanti who took away all three points at the end.
