MBABANE - Eswatini is in transition towards First World status in all areas, even in sports.
Very soon, the chess fraternity in the country will have a Chess Academy.

The academy is a result of the Eswatini Chess Federation’s training seminar that was held at Mountain Inn earlier this year. The seminar empowered individuals in the country with skills to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced players in the region, which are all the sections that the academy will focus on.

Speaking to the co-founder of the academy, Emmanuel Lovefield, he mentioned that this first of its kind institution would bring about a new breed of chess players, who will be key elements in decision- making and process reasoning in the near future.

Upbringing

“Countries like Russia and other developed countries place chess at the pivot of a child’s upbringing, because they understand the importance of the benefits of chess on an individual’s life.” he said.
Some of these benefits of playing chess are improving memory, problem-solving, raises IQ, teaches patience, improves concentration, increases creativity and exercises the mind overall, he concluded.

The academy will host training sessions at the Show Time Cafe (Swaziland Theatre Club) in Mbabane on Saturday and Sunday. The sessions will start at 10am and finish at 3pm on Saturday while classes on Sunday will commence at 1pm and run until 4pm.

“We will also host mobile classes around Mbabane at the mutual convenience of each client and the academy’s trainers. Lessons are open to children from the age of five and adults irrespective of their age. To sign up, you can contact us on; lovefieldchess@gmail.com /79025871/76273897,” he said.
